ARTICLES Medical Sketch

Victoria Anderson PhD

Medical science has not yet discovered a cause or cure for the Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, the inflammatory process that can affect any portion of the digestive tract, including in the ileocecal region. Cases may affect one or more of: the colon only, the small bowel only (duodenum, jejunum and/or ileum), the anus, stomach or esophagus.
Many medications are now available to control symptoms, with more on the horizon. (Supportive information: http://curezone.com/dis/1.asp?C0=103 )

The hypothesis that I want to incorporate in the search for the cure are lifestyle changes that implement healthy diet, body cleansing, exercises and different traditional and natural therapies.

During the initial interview the subjects (mainly young adults with the first symptoms, but also representatives from other age groups who are effected or in danger of being effected by the disease) will fill out a health assessment questionnaire covering their diet profile, exercise regiment, health history, symptoms and more.
After looking through the answers it will become clear what lifestyle habits are duplicate in all the research subjects.

Then the treatment will be administrated to find the most effective ingredient or procedure that can be incorporated in the medical cure.
According to the medical encyclopedia Crohn's disease can cause complications outside the digestive tract, such as joint pain, eye problems, a skin rash, or liver disease, suggesting a possible immune system response.
It has been found that Crohn's disease is more common among smokers than nonsmokers. In the research study I am planning to conduct the focusnot only on the region discussed, but on strengthening the whole immune system.

In order to come up with preliminary data on the prevention of Crohn's disease, that can be difficult to diagnose, some of the subjects sought, will be chosen based on the early symptoms, such may consist of joint aches and a general feeling of fatigue. The condition may go undiagnosed for years because symptoms usually develop gradually.

The innovative element that I am intending to propose is increasing awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
As well as unconventional cures, such as dispensing Aloe Vera based substance or other natural ingredients to slow down the inflammation, in my study I intent to substitute the symptom medications, such as over the counter antidiarrheal medication, which slows or stops the painful spasms in intestines that cause symptoms, with a natural antidiarrheal cure such as charcoal tablets, potassium, acidophilus, carob powder, rice water, increased fiber consumption and minerals and vitamins that have been known to ease the condition.

The anticipated outcome of the conducted research study will bring us a step closer to finding a way to prevent, manage and possible find a cure for the disease, using the modern scientific methods of diagnosis, such as x-rays and lab results, as well as tapping into ancient ways of traditional healing, such as balancing the root chakra - the first chakra located at Coccygeal plexus at the base of the spine. The currents of energy in the Muladhare chakra (root support) represent physical identity, its purpose is self-preservation.
By providing a counseling session with the diagnosed subjects and balancing the excess and deficiency in their root chakra, a correlation might be discovered between the patient’s disease and his or her way of receiving and expressing horizontal currents of energy.

Besides nutritional healing -macrobiotics, megavitamins, diets, and changes in lifestyle,
I would like to incorporate mind/body control (yoga, counseling, guided imagery, Reiky, hypnotherapy, sound/music therapy/relaxation) into the study.
Traditional and ethno medicine - acupuncture, aromatherapy, Ayurveda, herbal medicine, homeopathic medicine, Native American medicine, and Traditional Oriental Medicine are also possible.
In the future some pharmacological and biological treatments such as: anti-oxidants, cell treatment, chelation therapy, osteopathic medicine, metabolic therapy and bioelectromagnetic applications might be considered.
